Eligibility Requirements

High school students, as early as 9th grade can go to college. Motlow welcomes public, private and home-schooled students to take select college classes. Some high schools may have tougher requirements than what you see here. Please check with your counselor to discover your eligibility.

NOTE: 9th and 10th graders will no longer need an IEP to be admitted to take classes. However, all 9th graders will be required to take the Accuplacer exam. 10th graders may be admitted with their high school GPA, like the juniors and seniors. Both 9th and 10th graders will remain ineligible for the Dual Enrollment Grant. 


Requirements

  • Be enrolled in a partnering high school
  • Complete the Motlow admission application
  • Have your parent/guardian and high school principal/guidance counselor’s approval
  • Freshmen must take the Accuplacer exam.  The Accuplacer is scored on a scale of 200-300.  A score of 250 or higher is needed in any subject area for college-level placement.  For more information on this exam and a study guide, please visit Testing
  • Have an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher (2.5 if taking CTE courses, such as Mechatronics, Agriculture, Education, Business, etc.)
  • Have a 3.0 or higher in high school English classes if wishing to enroll in classes like English Composition, Fundamentals of Communication (Speech), Introduction to Psychology, Introduction to Sociology, Early United States History, Modern History, etc.
  • Have a 3.0 or higher in high school English and Math classes if wishing to enroll in any math or science course
  • If the required GPA requirements are not met, eligible ACT scores can be accepted.  Please speak to your Dual Enrollment Coordinator for more information
